Kenny Slaught On Architectural Trends In California

Almost 100 years ago, architect George Washington Smith developed the Spanish Colonial revival.movement in California. Smith left Harvard in favor of bond trading work, and later moved to Santa Barbara to relax. However, Smith decided to keep on designing for the city after learning the locals loved his house. He combined the old with the new in his work, and used materials brought from Spain. The architect’s art is appreciated for its beauty and complexity, inspiring many new artists. He became one of the city’s founding fathers, and Kenny Slaught praises the attention to detail needed to design such amazing buildings.
