The Spanish Revival architecture style was started in the early 1900s in US. The style was used to redesign American cities that were previously Spanish colonies. The style if often seen in California, and architect George Washington Smith relocated to Montecito to make it popular. In Santa Barbara, the style began being used after the 1925 quake required the city to be rebuilt. El Pueblo Viejo retains its history inspired by Rome and Paris. But, what it Hispanic architecture really about? This style is inspired by the cities in Andalusia, Southern Spain. The Santa Barbara buildings are a result of the natural environment and local materials. Kenny Slaught explains that the region’s architecture shows a great craftsmanship and simplicity. The structures here face the sun, and are painted in colors like white, red, orange and yellow.
